“Aunt Ruby! A man has been murdered in my tearoom, and all you can think about is how good-looking the detective is?”
Trinity Bishop is a devoted Jane Austen fan. After divorcing her husband at forty-two, she moves back to her hometown of Sidmouth, Devon, and opens a Jane Austen-themed tearoom, complete with Regency dresses for the staff, Jane Austen books, themed gifts, and a menu including items like Darcy’s Devonshire Cream Tea, Mansfield Park Mini Quiches, and Mrs Bennet’s Bath Buns.
But on the opening day a highly unpopular local businessman is murdered right in Trinity’s tearoom garden, threatening the future of her business. Then Trinity finds a ring that looks suspiciously like a ring Jane Austen owned, and when Trinity wears it, a group of opinionated ghosts of the people who inspired the characters from Jane Austen’s novels appear. Determined to save her tearoom, Trinity throws herself into investigating the murder, aided by the ghosts who are eager to help her as it gives them something to do.
