Assassins Can’t Do It Alone by Shesh

My name is Ishmael Dollah. I am sixty years old. I used to be a CEO. I am now an assassin. I kill people who deserve to die.

Ad/PR/Patrocinado. Book review of Assassins Can’t Do It Alone by Shesh, book 3 in the series. Many thanks to Shehs for this ebook, releasing today, Oct 10, 2026.

Ishmael Dollah, the former CEO turned assassin, is back, and this time he isn’t alone on the job. Sick of seeing the rich and powerful in Singapore get away with abusing and exploiting domestic servants and immigrant workers, Ishmael decides to expand his operation to include other team members who have resources and skills he needs to get the job done. But how do you convince people to join you in murder? And how long will he be able to hide the truth of what he’s doing from the people who matter most to him?

In book 1 in the series, Sixty Is The New Assassin, Ishmael used his CEO skills to plot the removal of people who threatened his family and personal happiness. In this one, Ishmael takes on the role of avenging angel, killing not out of personal self-interest, but from a desire to right the wrongs of society, punishing the rich and influential. They may be able to escape the law, but Ishmael isn’t about to let them get away with their crimes.

Assassins Can’t Do It Alone has a more serious, darker feel with more social critique and more ethical considerations than book 1 in the series. Is it right to kill a killer? Is it wrong to stand by if you know injustice has been done? Is it honourable to punish bullies who prey on those below them? Is it okay to cheer for a self-appointed assassin with attitude if you really despise the people he picks as his victims? None of these questions are easy to answer, and if you want to know how you feel about it, you’ll have to read this for yourself.

I’m not sure exactly how I feel about these questions, but I know that I’m invested in Ishmael’s pursuit of justice through ruthless efficiency, methodical planning, elaborate schemes and wry humour. Just don’t tell Ishmael I said so, I don’t want him to know that I know what he’s hiding!
