Book 5 in the Willowmere series, but impressively easy to read and enjoy without any knowledge of the previous four books. Ghosts and Grimoires is a cozy paranormal novella featuring Bex Merriweather, a middle-aged witch still in the process of learning how to use her magical powers, and her wonderfully named cat familiar and mentor, Cosmo Merlin de Beaufort.
When a letter from her late aunt instructs her to acquire a spellbook from an auction, Bex and Cosmo leave Willowmere and head for the nearby town of Crystal Springs. But all is not well in Crystal Springs, and someone else is after the book and willing to break the law to get what they want.
Ghosts and Grimoires is cozy and heartfelt, and I really enjoyed reading about Bex and Cosmo and their magical quest in Crystal Springs as they deal with spells, magical barriers, a dazzling 1920s ghost, a crow, the clash of old-fashioned charm vs. modern development, influencers, potential dark magic, and the effects of not being quite so young as they once were.
At 122 pages, this is a quick but very satisfying read, and I will definitely be on the lookout for more reads by this author from now on. If you want a cute, cozy, relaxing read with lots of heart, menopause witches, friendship, and the use of minor magic, give this one a go.
