“A clown climbs up the skeleton tree; A curse on you, a plague on me.”
Many thanks to Christopher Seto for this ebook.
Theo Chan is a Ph.D. student in criminology and Agatha Christie fan who takes a summer job as an assistant in a private investigator’s office and gets his first taste of applied criminology when his two employers take on a complicated case of a potentially cursed small-town chocolate and candy factory.
A fun and entertaining mystery written by a professor in criminology. The Chocolatier’s Curse blends dry wit with a somewhat closed circle mystery centred around the Clumindell Chocolate and Confectionery Company in the small town of Blue Frog Springs, and on Theo’s experiences as the assistant to two highly unusual and enigmatic elderly private investigators, the brilliant, formidable and vision-impaired Primrose and her aide, the jolly and jubilant Teebin.
The cast of suspects and locals is varied and colourful, and the story of Clumindell and its influence on the surrounding town of Blue Frog Springs is interesting. The potential curse is related to the onsite death of a former Clumindell employee, and there are reported sightings of a bloodstained clown, a grim, demonic version of the Clumindell mascot, whose appearance is said to signal impending death and disaster for anyone involved in the Clumindell company.
As Theo learns more about the history of Clumindell, Blue Frog Springs and his own employers, he realises that there are many unanswered mysteries all around him, and that there is a big difference between reading about crimes and actively investigating them.
