Dana Cauldwell has just transferred to a new job closer to her mom, leaving behind a messy work situation involving her superior. She’s assigned to reinvestigate an old case about possible mercy killings and in the process has to re-evaluate her own thoughts and feelings on the matter.

Even Gods Can Die is a gritty and raw mystery crime thriller. The tone is tough, and the themes are heavy and include topics like suicide and sexual assault. MC has an angry, downtrodden-but-not-broken energy, and her environment and situation in life feel bleak and bitter.

This isn’t a book you read to enjoy the story. This is a book you read to ask yourself some tough questions about death, morality and euthanasia. The value of this book is in the thoughts and conversations you will have, with yourself and/or others, long after you are done reading. 

If you are looking for a light-hearted, cozy, low-stakes read, this definitely isn’t it. But if you want a gritty, dark, thought-provoking read asking difficult questions about life and death and throwing ugly truths right in your face, this is one for you.
