The Corpse in the Cabana by Shéa MacLeod

Her eyes widened. ” You think the killer is here? One of the group? Surely not.”

Book 1 in the Viola Roberts Cozy Mystery series.

Viola Roberts is a historical romance writer composing bodice rippers with hunky, shirtless cowboys. She is attending a writer’s conference in Florida with her best friend and fellow writer Cheryl Delaney, when the two of them become suspects in the murder of another writer at the conference.

A madcap comedy mystery with a clumsy and awkward but well-meaning main character who fumbles and bumbles her way through her investigation. Viola has absolutely no experience with crime-solving, other than watching murder mystery shows on TV and trying to emulate what she thinks Jessica Fletcher would do, but she is nonetheless determined to clear her own and Cheryl’s name.

Throwing herself into the fray with great determination, Viola begins to snoop around the conference, fortified by blackberry bourbon and the reluctant aid of Cheryl, and slightly distracted by the very handsome and grumpy detective Costa, and the equally handsome and a lot less grumpy thriller writer, Lucas Salvatore.

If you want your stories and characters to be realistic, this is not the book for you. If you, on the other hand, enjoy silly and crazy antics and love comedy mysteries like Finlay Donovan and Dial A for Aunties, you might want to check this one out.
