The Bristlecone Writers’ Group by Lisa Williams Kline

Many thanks to BooksGoSocial for this novel via Netgalley.

“Everyone’s voice deserves to be heard.”

At the Bristlecone retirement community, a small group of retirees meet once a week to discuss their writing. When Margaret, the oldest member of the group, who never shared any actual writing, suddenly passes away, it sets in motion a chain of events that none of the other members could have anticipated.

The Bristlecone Writers’ Group is a beautiful and moving story about the joys and pains of life and love, the unseen depths of quiet existences, the love of writing and reading, and the wonder and power of second chances, no matter how late in life they may come.

This is a story of finding yourself, and finding your voice, no matter who you are or where you are in life. It is a story of inclusivity, of representation, of forgiveness, and, for anyone who needs it, a gentle nudge and reminder that life is short, and that happiness is never out of reach for anyone who is willing to change, fail and learn from past mistakes.

I highly recommend this to anyone who has ever loved and lost, to anyone who has ever felt left out or silenced, to anyone who has ever found joy in reading, and to anyone who has ever written a story or dreamed of doing so. If you somehow manage to not fall into any of these categories, I still highly recommend this one for its life-affirming messages of friendship, love and life.
