A steampunk, alternate history series, Burton & Swinburne takes inspiration from real-life events and figures, placing them in an alternate history where Victorian technology is far more advanced than it ever was in real life. Automatons, time travel, genetic engineering, monstrous animals and machines and biological warfare are but a few of the things Burton and Swinburne encounter in this series.
Sir Richard Francis Burton is a true Renaissance man with countless skills. He is an explorer, linguist, scholar and soldier, while Algernon Charles Swinburne is a self-indulgent unsuccessful poet and masochist. At first, Burton and Swinburne face up against the strange enemy Spring Heeled Jack, but as the series progresses, the stakes become increasingly higher, until the two of them are essentially tasked with saving all of society and the future of all mankind.
This kind of series won’t be for everyone, but I highly recommend it to readers who love alternate history, steampunk, time travel, speculative fiction and strange, weird, different stories and ideas.
Do you like Steampunk and time travel stories? If yes, please let me know your favourites, I would love to add more of both of those to my TBR.
