File M for Murder by Miranda James

Connor Lawton made an abysmal first impression on his initial visit to the Athena Public Library.

Charlie Harris is thrilled to hear that his adult daughter Laura will be staying with him in Athena for the fall semester. But when the thoroughly unpleasant playwright Connor Lawton is murdered, Laura becomes both a suspect and a target for assault, prompting Charlie to find the real killer to protect his daughter.

A fun, cozy mystery featuring Charlie Harris, a small-town librarian and widowed father, and his very clever cat Diesel who seems to understand what Charlie says to him, has impeccable judgement in humans and even has a nose for clues and danger.

Filled with lots of descriptions of foods, biological and found family, a hint of romance, and a taste of the good and bad in the world of acting and theatre, File M for Murder is light-hearted, cosy and great for animal lovers in general and cat lovers in particular, as Diesel time and again steals the show with his far-above-normal cat intelligence and behaviour. Recommended for readers who like their murder mysteries very cosy and relaxed.
