Book 1 in the Aaron Falk series.
In the small farming town of Kiewarra in Australia, the Hadler family is found brutally murdered, with the infant daughter being the only survivor.
Aaron Falk, Federal Police investigator in Melbourne, is called back to town for the Hadler funeral. As a child, Aaron was best friends with the now deceased Luke Hadler. The initial investigation suggests that Luke killed first his wife and son and then himself, but Luke’s parents are convinced their son is innocent and beg Aaron to investigate.
But being back in Kiewarra isn’t easy for Aaron. He has been carrying a dark secret for twenty years, a secret that has to do with Luke and himself, and the suspicious death of a teenage girl the two boys were friends with.
Now Aaron is forced to revisit the past as well as present murders, in a community filled with people who are stretched to their limits by the ongoing draught threatening everyone’s livelyhood. Plenty of people were more than happy to see Aaron and his father leave for Melbourne twenty years ago, and not at all pleased to see Aaron back in town.
A gripping mystery blending the murder of a family in Kiewarra with the unsolved death of a teenage girl twenty years earlier. A dark and gritty story set in a small, struggling community that is only a spark away from exploding like a powderkeg, as people buckle under the pressure of the draught and their own personal demons. A story of love and hate, loss and lies and a farming town’s struggle for survival under the relentless, Australian sun.
Thriller – Mystery – Crime – Suspense
