The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

Book 1 in the Thursday Murder Club series.

On the surface Cooper’s Chase is a peaceful and sleepy luxury retirement village full of idling senior citizens, set in the tranquil surroundings of a former convent for nuns. But when a murder occurs nearby, the Thursday Murder Club springs into action, and the local police officers DCI Chris Hudson and PC Donna De Freitas quickly learn that the members of this club are as far from the idea of old, helpless, innocent civilians as one can get.

Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron may be long retired, but they are by no means decrepit, and they all bring their own expertise to the Thursday Murder Club table. Ron is as fiery an agitator as in his heyday when he earned himself the nickname “Red Ron”, Ibrahim is a methodical and logical retired therapist, Joyce is an empathetic and seemingly meek former nurse and Elizabeth is a force of nature who can terrify friends and foe alike and has a long list of useful contacts and a colourful past.

Unconcentional amateur sleuths, unconventional suspects and unconventional views of justice all come together in a fun and quirky cozy mystery celebrating four senior citizens in all their glory as they poke and prod, plot and plan and at times manipulate their way to solving not just one, but several murders as Thursday Murder Club dig deep and unearth way more than they bargained for.
