Nobody ever believed that murders “just happened” around Mallory Viridian. Not at first, anyway.
Imagine living the life of a murder mystery heroine. It might sound fun at first, but imagine finding dead bodies every time you move, start a new job, go to a party or simply take a walk. Imagine the suspicion and paranoia, and the awful emotional toll it would take. For Mallory Viridian, that is how her life has always been, leading her to seek refuge on Station Eternity, a sentient space station far away from the rest of humanity.
There, her biggest problems are her hilariously awkward interactions with aliens who find humans weak, uncivilised and awfully squishy. But with the announcement of the arrival of a shuttle full of humans from Earth, the station is thrown into total chaos, and Mallory is once again right in the middle of the kind of situation she ran away from Earth to avoid.
Station Eternity is an absurd, intriguing, zany mix of murder mystery, science fiction and comedy that may not be for everyone, but I personally loved it. Mallory is only one of a whole range of characters, human and alien, each one with a wilder, crazier backstory than the last, and all of them, in one way or another, connected and part of a complex story that has its origin on Earth and comes to an explosive conclusion on a sentient space station.
Highly recommended for murder mystery/cozy mystery and science fiction fans who appreciate absurd humour, multiple perspectives and a plot that switches between fast-paced action and character-driven flashbacks.
