“A sinister hooded figure who smells like spring flowers? Oh, Simon, this case is shaping up to be delightfully absurd.”
Lady Margot is overseeing the preparations for the annual Midsummer Garden Party at Blackwell Manor when the body of the head gardener, Edwin Thistlewood is found among the rosebushes.
Despite the warnings from Inspector Simon Grant who is in charge of the investigation, Lady Margot is determined to get to the bottom of the case, and as the two of them bicker and banter she finds herself increasingly warming to the Inspector, who seems to have more than a professional interest in her as well.
Murder Beneath the Roses is a very enjoyable 1920s historical mystery with lots of atmosphere and charm, a great main character and a lovely setting. Quick to read, light-hearted and fun, this novella introduces the reader to Lady Margot Blackwell, a sympathetic, clever and independent woman and the main character of the Lady Margot Blackwell series which currently has one book, Murder of a Fake Diva.
