Murder is a Piece of Cake by Valerie Burns

Whoever killed Clayton Davenport did the world a favor.

When the rich, flashy, and thoroughly unpleasant investor Clayton Davenport arrives in New Bison days before the annual spring festival, he manages to antagonise almost everyone in town, including infuriating Maddy Montgomery and her friend April to the point where both of them become prime suspects when Davenport is found murdered.

But Maddy isn’t one to back down from a fight, and with the help of the Baker Street Irregulars and her new boyfriend Michael, she begins investigating Davenport’s death. At the same time, Maddy has to deal with her mastiff, Baby, who seems down in the dumps, manage her inherited bakery and of course maintain her social media work, posting and hashtagging away whenever she has a spare moment.

A fun cozy mystery with romance, found family, yummy baked goods, mastiff antics and a young, contemporary vibe. Maddy is witty, feisty and loyal, her romance with Michael is cute and cozy and her relationships with her found family of friends, neighbours and a two-hundred-fifty-pound mastiff are entertaining and funny with just enough sweetness to be cute without being too sappy.

Recommended for cozy mystery lovers in general, and for fans of culinary mysteries, dog lovers and social media enthusiasts in particular. If you ever wanted to know what hashtags to use to describe an emotional mastiff or the feeling of being dumped at the altar during a live-streamed wedding, this one is for you.
