Lost Heart in King Manor by Celeste Fenton

Two months ago, her life had been safe. Simple. Maybe even dull. She’d thought kale smoothies were daring.

Gabriella Heart, known as Gabby, is busy sending her daughter off to graduate school when her mother is hospitalised after a bad fall. Rushing back home, Gabby is shocked to find her mother’s health is much worse than she thought. She arranges for her mother’s rehabilitation at the old King Manor, once the home of the wealthy King family. While Gabby worries about her mom, she runs into not one, but two very interesting men who are both very keen to try to distract her from her worries.

But back at King Manor strange things are going on, and as a hurricane rolls in, Gabby finds herself right in the middle of the mystery of King Manor, her mother’s accident and her own heart when it comes to the two men in her life. But people come with a past, and at King Manor there are several people with something to hide, and some of those are very close to Gabby indeed.

Hearts are at stake at King Manor, in more ways than one in this novel, and it is very entertaining. Fun, sexy and touching, Lost Heart in King Manor blends mystery, romance and drama into a fast-paced adventure centred around King Manor and Gabby Heart, a great main character who comes across as very realistic and very sympathetic. The supporting cast of characters are great as well, with my personal favourites being Lola, Gabby’s sassy, saucy best friend, and Rosa, a cool and tough cop whose stunningly beautiful sister happens to be the ex of one of Gabby’s new male acquaintances.

The mystery is great as well, from a few well-placed hints in the beginning of the story, to a neatly wrapped up and very satisfying conclusion at the end. A great first book in a series and a really fun mystery filled with jokes and banter, sexual tension, awkward encounters, complicated families, lingering secrets and lots of heart.

Many thanks to Celeste Fenton for this novel. I received a review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
