Mystery Books with TV Adaptations: Phryne Fisher/Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries

The Phryne Fisher series consists of 24 books by Kerry Greenwood. The Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries TV series has 3 seasons and 34 episodes.

Phryne Fisher is sassy, jazzy, scandalous, independent Australian lady detective in the 1920s with a heart of gold right beneath her tough exterior. She is wealthy and glamourous, but comes from humble origins, having known poverty and hunger as a child. She is witty and intelligent, and skilled in piloting, shooting and driving, making her a real force to be reckoned with as sleuth.

The stories are fun, the supporting cast of characters in both the books and the TV series are great, and the TV series’ costumes are gorgeous. Phryne Fisher is a very liberated young woman who enjoys various flirts and flings and never lets anyone tell her what to do. A fun read, or watch, for anyone who enjoys lighthearted mysteries starring strong, female sleuths and dazzling, historical settings.
