Death By Peppermint by Maisy Marple

Book 1 in the Candy Cane Caper series.

Former librarian turned café owner, Noelle, is celebrating December in her café, The Hearth & Hearth, with a cocoa advent calendar, but when the hated developer Warren Frost dies from eating a poisoned candy cane, Noelle’s beloved café becomes a crime scene. Warren’s ruthless business practices have left him with numerous enemies all over Peppermint Hollow and a long list of suspects who all had both motive and opportunity.

Supported by her best friend Ivy, Noelle takes it upon herself to assist the police in their enquiries, but somewhere in the otherwise so peaceful town of Peppermint Hollow, a murderer is watching and waiting, ready to strike if Noelle comes too close to the truth.

A cozy, Christmas-themed mystery perfect for the season. Noelle is a very sympathetic and likeable main character, Ivy is a perfect cozy mystery best friend – fun, feisty and endlessly loyal, and Nutmeg, Noelle’s Corgi-Pom mix dog is a cute companion who adds a little extra touch of cozy to an already heartwarming mix.

The banter between Noelle and Ivy is cute and funny, and the charm of small-town living and sympathy for the small business owners and locals just trying to survive the pressure of corporate greed is very relatable.
