The Leap from Hammes Castle by T. J. Hawkins

“Welcome to Hammes Castle. You’ll never leave alive.”

A prequel novella in the Tudor Bastard Series, the story follows John de Vere, the Earl of Oxford who is imprisoned in Hammes Castle. Battles and politics, friendship and enmity, and fluid, descriptive language transport the reader back in time to the raw, gritty Tudor era of strife, war and combat.

The setting and atmosphere in the novella are great, and John is an interesting character, a Tudor action hero brought low by circumstance but never truly defeated, not even in imprisonment.

At 41 pages this novella is a quick read that left me very curious about A Bastard’s Bosworth which is set to release in December.
